Bald Eagle hanging out at Rock Harbor

This immature Bald eagle has been hanging out at Rock Harbor in Orleans for the past couple of days. Two ospreys were dive bombing it the other day while it was in flight. The eagle was flipping itself over with its talons out trying to scare them off. According to my wife Melissa who works at Mass Audubon, bald eagles don't get their white heads and tails until they turn 4-5 years old.

Irish Kids on Vacation

Eoghan and Darragh from Cork, Ireland making striper fishing look easy. Eoghan caught three fish (including a 25" bluefish) and Darragh caught four. The biggest fish got away after it broke Darragh's line. After spending two weeks in Eastham on Cape Cod, the boys are sad to be going home. But they'll be back, so watch out fish!!

What to do when fishing is slow?

What do you do when the fishing is slow? Albert shows off one way to pass the time. Find biggest piece of driftwood you can find and dig it into the sand. Just goes to show it is never boring on the Outer Beach.

Poppers strike again

The best part about taking people out fishing is hearing about stories such as this afterwards. Thanks to Andy Leiter again for sharing. Looking forward to fishing with him again.

"Ed:

I had an extra weekend at the Cape the last couple of days due to a last minute rental cancellation. Followed your advice and caught a nice striper 2 to 3 lbs or so on my light freshwater tackle one evening in Salt Pond. Went to Jemima pond to rinse off my gear on the way home and landed a 2 lb bass with the popper technique you taught me. The next day the same technique in Muddy Pond had pickerel jumping out of the water! Caught 4 nice ones, up to 20" in 45 minutes. Thanks again for all you taught me.

Andy"

Freshwater Review

Nice e-mail from Andrew Leiter who did a freshwater charter with me on July 7:

"Dear Ed:
I wanted to thank you again for teaching me many things that I did not know. Many of the tips you gave me were helpful. On Saturday morning I decided todo a little popper fishing on Muddy Pond. First cast landed a 20 inchpickerel. Got 4 or 5 more strikes the next 30 minutes before mymonofilament got all snarled up. I replaced it with new braided as yousuggested. Will get back in touch with you when I am back on the cape.
Thanks again, Andy Leiter"

Atlanta hits Cape Cod Bay

Up for the holiday weekend and escaping the southern heat, these guys from Atlanta, Georgia caught more fish on their trip than what's in the new Atlanta Aquarium!

From SealMan to Family Man

From Mechanic to SealMan to Family Man. Paul Santopietro can do it all! After helping to rescue the baby seal, Paul takes his family out fishing. We had a great morning trip and his daughters loved reeling in those big bluefish (10 pounds+).

Super SealMan saves the day!

On July 3 my mechanic Paul Santopietro, and his family, discovered a wounded baby seal in the harbor right behind my boat. The Cape Cod Stranding Network was contacted and my mechanic became "Super SealMan" and saved the day. Hope the seal is doing fine. One of it's front flippers was missing.

For more information on the work the Cape Cod Stranding Network does to rescue marine mammals check out their website at www.capecodstranding.net

To go on a seal cruise contact Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctaury at www.massaudubon.org/wellfleetbay

Bluefish off Lieutenant Island

These guys are a winner of a raffle they won at a memorial for Kenny "Kid" Copes of Waterbury, Connecticut. The money raised from the raffle was donated to a charity in memory of Kenny. A good day of fishing for a good cause.

Fresh Water

The other day went down to a local herring run and saw an 8-pound plus large mouth and some 5 and 6 pounders. They are waiting there for the next one of you that wants to come up for some fresh water action.

Family Fishing

Took my cousin Jason and his friends out to Cape Cod bay to thank him for helping with the web site. Cought a bunch of blues. They fried up pretty nice. Water was a little rough and some of the crew got a little green, it might have been because of the singing.
